Industry News
1. itSMF International Annual General Meeting 2009
Our Chapter's chair and vice-chair, H P Suen and Raymond Yu, attended the itSMF International Annual General Meeting 2009 at Barcelona, Spain. The meeting appointed three new Directors serving the itSMF International Executive Board from January 2010 for two years. The three new directors were David Cannon (USA), Peter Cross (Australia), and Michael Kum (Malaysia).
2. Phased withdrawal of ITIL v2 exams
In June 2009, itSMF International held a survey of the IT Service Management community to seek views on the uptake of ITIL version3 and the need to retain ITIL version2.
The survey had over 1300 responses. There are some clear messages in the survey report:
- English versions of products need to be in the market to the end.
- Overall, less than 8% suggested version2 qualifications need to be available for more than 2 years (from the date of the survey).
OGC has considered these findings alongside its own requirements for the maintenance of the ITIL product set, and agreed that:
a. Withdrawal will be product based, with all language variants for individual qualifications and publications being removed at the same time.
b. Removal of version2 will complete on 30 June 2011. Specific product withdrawal will be as follows:
- V2 Foundation to cease 30 June 2010
- V2 Manager to cease 31 August 2010
- V2 Practitioner to cease 31 Dec 2010
- Foundation Bridge to cease 31 Dec 2010
All of the above will be available for re-sits until 30 June 2011
- Manager Bridge to cease 30 June 2011
- Service Support and Service Delivery publications will be removed on 30 June 2011. Though in the later period these may only be available as 'print on demand' or in electronic formats.
- Continued availability of all other version2 publications will be considered on a case by case basis as they come up for reprint, with all being removed no later than 30 June 2011.

3. Call for Participants: ITIL Update
The Office of Government Commerce (OGC) and The Stationary Office (TSO), the official publisher for the OGC, are seeking participants for the update of the five core publications (Service Strategy, Service Design, Service Transition, Service Operations, and Continual Service Improvement) and the Introduction to the ITIL Service Lifecycle. The participants will be of two kinds: Authors - who will make any necessary changes to the text; Reviewers - who will comment on the changes and advise whether drafts are acceptable. Chapter's Update
4. Member Survey 2009 - Results revealed
The first chapter's members' survey was completed in October. We would like to share the preliminary findings as follows.
- Professional qualification and personal development are key goals for most members joining our chapter.
- The majority agreed that annual conference is the most important event.
- There is a preference that seminars and workshops to be held more frequently. Besides, advanced topics are preferred.
- General event arrangement is satisfactory. Fees, food and payment methods are identified as areas for improvement. Office-hour is preferred time for seminars whereas office-hour and after-office are preferred time for workshops and study group events.
- ITIL glossary and local news are the most favourable features on the website. In particular, local ITSM news is consistently the most sought after information in other survey questions.
Detailed results will be published in the upcoming release of Newsletter itSMart.
