Through its partnership with Van Haren Publishing (VHP), one of the most renowned publishers for ITSM titles in Netherlands, the itSMF Hong Kong Chapter is delighted to announce the launch of its e-bookshop facility. This facility allows members of our Chapter and visitors to purchase itSMF titles and other selected ITSM titles on-line all year round with 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Through this online facility itSMF members will entitle a 15% discount off the published list price from Van Haren.

What does the itSMF do?
itSMF plays a pivotal role in the ongoing development of the standard for IT Service Management (ISO/IEC 20000) and the underlying "best practice" guidance of the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL). itSMF runs seminars, conferences and regional meetings, sells (& publishes in some cases) all relevant publications & publishes a quarterly magazine (ServiceTalk).

Who are its members?
Members include IT vendors, software developers, professional service companies and organisations across industry in the public and private sector. The number of enterprises holding a form of membership is in excess of 2500 worldwide! Approximately 80% are "user" organisations interested in deploying effective, high-quality service management solutions internally, with the remaining 20% being suppliers of ITSM products and/or services.

Who pays for the itSMF?
The itSMF is a self-sufficient, not-for-profit organisation funded primarily through membership subscriptions, sponsorship fees and the commercial activities such as book sales and events.

What qualifications do you need to join?
There are no qualifications required to join the itSMF other than a vested interest in improving IT service management either within your company or across industry. However, there are qualifications that itSMF supports and endorses that individuals can achieve. We have also established a professional Institute of IT Service Management (www.iosm.com), with a registration system for individuals wishing to demonstrate ongoing professional competence.

How much does it cost?
The cost of membership depends upon the type of membership and in case of Corporate Membership, the number of individuals within that organisation that require membership. Refer to our "Join Us" section for a detailed cost breakdown.

How do I join?

Does the itSMF do conformance testing?
Organisations looking to have their service management processes evaluated by an external auditor should look to an ISO/IEC 20000 Standard audit (see www.isoiec20000certification.com). Individuals seeking certification as being qualified can sit for the globally-recognised qualification examination (see qualifications). itSMF believes that there is currently little value in product conformance testing/claims since:

 ITIL is non-prescriptive guidance,

no products provide functionality across all disciplines,
a purchaser still needs to evaluate any product for suitability

Can I join from overseas as a member of itSMF HK Chapter?

Certainly, membership can be applied interactively online, or by forwarding a downloaded hardcopy application form with filled-in information. All overseas and local members enjoy the same privileges. Overseas members, however, need to be aware of their opportunity and availability to participate in events organized locally by the HK Chapter.
